Sipping chardonnay, a fastidiously hip coterie of New Yorkers and international art scenesters — exactly the gathering you’d expect at the Museum of Modern Art’s latest opening — passes from display to display, admiring the attributes of the offerings: the vibrant color of a Red Cross first-aid kit, the delicate refinement of a fireproof sweatshirt, the sleek curvature of a gas mask designed to accommodate the beards of religious Jews.
Sometimes art imitates life, sometimes it protects it. That’s one idea behind the MoMA’s newest exhibition. (more…)
